In the Tuscan Countryside

The Vicolabate Tuscan Country Resort is located on top of a hill, immersed in the Tuscan countryside, in the middle between San Casciano Val di Pesa and Greve… right in the heart of Chianti.

The farmhouse was originally built at the beginning of the 1900’s with surrounding olive orchards creating a unique panorama.  The Manor-style Farmhouse, typical of the rich Florentine families at the time, has been restructured to accommodate various apartments. The infinity swimming pool offers breathtaking panoramic views that create magical unforgettable moments.

The Country Resort is owned and managed by Antonella, and with the help of friends that will welcome you and make you feel at home.

“Built from a 19th Century Farmhouse in the heart of Tuscany, the Vicolabate apartments hold within them a rustic charm, where nature is authentic and pastoral, as well as the tasteful elegance of the typical Florentine Renaissance Villas”

Art, Culture and Nature in Harmony

At our farmhouse you will not find the classic “agriturismo” farmhouse.  At Vicolabate you will have a Florentine Manor-like apartment surrounded by century-old olive orchards and well-groomed vineyards of the wonderful Tuscan countryside.  The classical art and culture of the Renaissance city of Florence meets with Nature here; the furnishings are original and exclusive and are inspired by the surrounding rustic landscapes, blending with the scenery and history of Tuscany to create a pleasurable and relaxing vacation.

All the furnishings have been taken care of GiakkeMikke, Artistic Restyling. We have renovated and furnished our farmhouse as if it was our home, looking for unusual furniture and exclusive furnishings, something that would give our guests a well-worn feeling of warmth.  You will find unique furniture and pieces that have been re-adapted to serve our purpose, all with a sense of going back in time, yet with the comfort of today.  We have furnished our kitchens, as well as the rest of the house, with modern comforts and appliances.

The History of Vicolabate

Tuscan olive branch twig

It all started on a Sunday walk with friends in the countryside close to the Church of Vicolabate when we saw, at the top of a hill, through the treetops, what seemed like a roof.  Our curiosity led us to explore and we began to climb the hill, but since the surrounding grounds were completely abandoned, it wasn’t easy to arrive at our destination and thorny bushes and brambles dominated the farmhouse.
In front of us stood the Gabbiano Castle with its well-maintained vineyards, in the distance the village of San Casciano with its water tower, and barely visible in the background the Apuane Alps.  To our right the Tower of Impruneta, behind us were the Castle Towers of VicchioMaggio, and close by the Tower of Luciana (which is now an observatory).

Above the entrance, a stone inscription dominated the farmhouse façade with Gabrielle D’Annunzio’s verse engraved upon it:  “ La Castellaccia, pacifera è l’oliva e tarda e pingue”…..(a loose translation could be “ The Old Country Manor, peaceful is the olive and slow and rich”).  It was love at first sight. It took a lot of effort and a bit of luck but we were able to buy Podere La Castellaccia, which consists of the main farmhouse, the barn, and the land.  With time and patience, we have renovated all the buildings and have given a new life to the surrounding countryside.
